I hope you didn’t lose respect for me for quoting John Mayer. This song shuffled through my iPod the other day and it just said everything I was feeling for February. First of all, let’s say I’m ready for March. Because February has been a hard month, lots of shit happened. I’ve been dealing with my (broken) love hangover. My liver has become a distillery and my pillow had become a soaking pad for Ketel One vapors. A new job also presented itself, and it’s been a subtle change here and there adapting to corporate stiffness.

I’ve been clocking in to work. And my mind and spirit has been checking out.

February is a month dedicated to love and after spending my favorite holiday New Year’s Eve with a broken love on the heart, I wanted to close up shop. Renovations. I was done. I told myself as you read before, I’d fight for myself and I’d be selfish. I’d only do things for me.

But you know the heart is funny.

I’ve spent many situations in my life where I’ve doubted it.

But there are some points, where you can’t hear what it’s telling you.

There’s also another saying that goes “dare nothing, get nothing.” And just in true Julia Roberts bullshit romantic comedy fashion, Murphy’s Law comes into place. I’ve never been chased before. It’s new. From someone who has always chased the love in their life, the one that sprung his heart open at the right instant, the one that decorated his heart at every chance with romance–things have become scary. Things are incredibly different.

Time springs lessons to be learned. I’ve learned that you cannot change people. Some people are the way they are. Love is incredibly complicated, it’s not black and white. It’s grayscale, and once you find it into color with the right person then it becomes beautiful. I also learned that you should never drink with an agenda, especially a negative one. And furthermore, you should not walk downtown with sippy cups and expect to function the next day. Worse hangover of my life.

One thing still reminds true though. Good hearts are fluid, they are pulsating, and they are living and breathing. Mine is just like Demi Moore and is in rehabbing it right now.

Fuck this John Mayer song now, maybe I’ll go listen to “Your Body is a Wonderland now…”
